Peace Memorial Park / Atomic Bomb Dome

The first World Heritage Site on the tour is the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park. The Atomic Bomb Dome was originally a modern building that displayed various products from Hiroshima Prefecture. Although there were disagreements about whether to preserve the building or not, it was ultimately registered as a World Heritage Site in 1996. It remains standing as a symbol of the tragedy of war.

Peace Memorial Museum

The Peace Memorial Museum tells the history of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, and many notes and photos of atomic bomb survivors are displayed. It conveys the reality of the atomic bombing and sends a message urging for world peace. Leaders of 2023 G7 Hiroshima Summit and other countries all over the world have visited here.

Lunch

Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki is a specialty and soul food featuring lots of vegetables and a variety of toppings. Watching the chef prepare the dish on the griddle in front of you and the smell of the oyster sauce on top is sure to get your mouth watering. Seafood dishes from the Seto Inland Sea are also famous, such as grilled or fried oysters and conger eel.

SPOT

Ferry to Miyajima

We will depart Hiroshima city and head to Miyajimaguchi, the ferry port for Miyajima, known as the “Island of the Gods”. The island is not connected to the mainland, so you will take a ferry to the island. As the ferry approaches the island, you will likely spot the large, red Otorii gate that appears to be floating on the water. Please enjoy the beautiful scenery of the island and the gate as you head for the island.

SPOT

Otorii Gate & Friendly Deer

On Miyajima island, you may witness the local deer walking around in town and in the mountains. They are very cute but keep an eye on your belongings… You will get a look at the 800-year old Otorii gate. During low tide, you are even able to walk out onto the river bed and get close to the gate.

SPOT

Itsukushima Shrine

Itsukushima Shrine is a national treasure and world heritage site. You can walk through the beautiful vermillion building and experience its 1400 years of history. Please enjoy the view of the Seto Inland Sea from the corridors floating above the water.

SPOT

Five-storied Pagoda/Senjokaku Shrine

On a hill a short walk away from Itsukushima Shrine, you will find the Five-story Pagoda and Senjokaku Shrine. The shrine is said to have been built by a famous samurai lord from Osaka. However, the samurai lord passed away before the building could be completed, and it remains incomplete to this day. The shrine is spacious enough to fit 1,000 tatami mats, and you can enjoy the cool air in the summer or the warmth of the sun in the winter. The views of Senjokaku and Itsukushima shrines from the pagoda are a must-see!

SPOT

Hiroshima Station/Hotel

We will take the ferry back to the mainland and bring you safely back to your hotel or Hiroshima Station.
