Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome

Peace Memorial Park is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the aftermath of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during World War II. The park itself features several statues and memorials dedicated to the various peoples who were present when the bomb dropped. The Peace Memorial Museum also houses several artifacts that survived the bombing and images of Hiroshima before and after the bombing. The Atomic Bomb Dome is located at the hypocenter of the explosion. Formerly an industrial promotion hall for Hiroshima Prefecture, the building was able to withstand the blast from the bomb and the ruins of the building have remained untouched. Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome are registered as a World Heritage Site.
